Ashtanga Yoga – THE EGHT LIMBS YOGA
Ashtanga yoga is also referred to as Raja yoga, it is a comprehensive yoga. Yoga to the average person means Asanas. But then  Ashtanga yoga or Raja yoga is beyond that.
According to some historical facts,  Ashtanga Yoga is the type of yoga which was developed and founded by K. Pattabhi Jois, though originally it was an aspect of yoga properly systemised by Sage Patanjali as Raja Yoga, which Yama, Niyama, pranayama, Asana, pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi are its limbs,  but today when we talk about yoga in the fitness and health perspective, most people refer to only to the three and four of the eight limbs which brought about Hatha Yoga. Ashtanga yoga by most revered masters of yoga is known as the Eight Limbs Yoga which revolves round Patanjali's yoga sutra.

In this aspect of yoga, the first four limbs are more of physical and partly internal cleansings – Yama, Niyama, Asana and the Pranayama while the remaining four limbs which are the – pratyahara, dhyana, Dharana are more of internal cleansing. So yoga is incomplete without the complete eight limbs.
